Winter Parking at Stowe:

Choose from a menu of complimentary and paid parking spread across our various parking areas, plus carpooling incentives and complimentary public transit. Read on to learn more.

 

Winter Parking Details: 

Mt. Mansfield & Midway Lots
  • Located on the left after The Lodge at Spruce Peak on Rt. 108.
  • Gondola SkyRide parking is available in areas A3, A2, and A1. General resort parking is available in the main Mount Mansfield parking area.
  • Take the complimentary Over Easy Transfer Gondola to access the Spruce Peak village, Stowe Rocks, and Cubs Daycare.

Toll House Conference Center

• Located on the left just past the Cross Country Center on Rt 108.
• The start of the scenic Auto Toll Road can be found just adjacent to the conference center.

Free Options:

  • Parking is free in all Mansfield lots from Monday through Thursday during non-holiday periods, and after 2:00 PM every day.
  • The Cross Country Center and Toll House parking areas are free seven days a week.
  • Free parking will be offered at all times in all lots to cars arriving with four or more guests. Connect with a Park Stowe Parking Ambassador to receive your carpool parking code and register your plate either by scanning one of the QR code parking signs or by accessing one of the on-site parking Kiosks.
  • Remember, you must connect with a Park Stowe Parking Ambassador to receive your carpool parking code for free parking- you still need to register your license plate to park.

Paid Options & Details: 

  • Paid Parking in the Mansfield & Midway parking areas will be implemented Friday through Sunday and during holiday periods starting Friday, December 13th, 2024 until Sunday, April 6th, 2025. 
  • Paid parking will be $30 per space, per day.
  • Parking will be paid through a smartphone app with advanced payment and license plate verification, or via on-site kiosks for those without smartphones.
  • There will be no in-person, on-lot transactions or gates/checkpoints that slow down guest arrival.

Public Transit Options: 

  • Free public transit, servicing from Stowe Village to the resort, is provided courtesy of Green Mountain Transit. Please visit ridegmt.com for more details. 
  • The Mountain Road Shuttle loops throughout town every 30 minutes off-peak and every 20 minutes during peak hours.

Accessible Parking:

  • All accessible parking is free and options are available at Mansfield Base Lodge, Over Easy Gondola, Midway, B Lots, D2, Toll House, and Cross Country Center. Note that both accessible ramps at Mansfield Base Area allow access to the upper level of the lodge from the parking lot. 
  • The Spruce Peak base area, not owned or managed by Vail Resorts, also offers accessible parking options and a parking garage. 
  • Complimentary paratransit service is available on the Mountain Road Shuttle. Call RCT at 802-748-8170 for more information.  

EV Charging: 

  • EV Charging is available at the lower B parking area by Midway Base Lodge
  • The fee to charge is $.25 kw/ hour and is payable directly at each charging station.

RV & Overnight Parking:

  • Parking for vehicles longer than 25' is currently unavailable.
  • Overnight parking is NOT permitted in any of our parking areas.

Complimentary Mountain Road Shuttle

All season long starting on 11/29/24 until 4/6/25, Green Mountain Transit offers a complimentary shuttle bus service from downtown Stowe, up Mountain Road, and to several stops around Stowe Mountain Resort. This is an especially convenient option during peak periods and/or inclement weather - especially for guests without winter tires - or if you simply want to relax and enjoy having someone else drive.

Public Parking & Carpool Locations: Available at Stowe Events Field, Stowe Elementary, and Stowe Town Hall.

The Mountain Road Shuttle loops throughout town every 30 minutes off-peak and every 15 minutes during peak hours.

  • Downtown: In front of Stowe Town Hall (Akeley Memorial Building; with access to other GMT routes) and south to Lower Village at Commodores Inn
  • Mountain Road (Route 108): Sun & Ski Inn and Suites, At the intersection of Cape Cod Rd, Piecasso, Neon Wave, Talta Lodge Topnotch Resort, and the Matterhorn & Fiddler's Green Inn.

Accessibility: All GMT buses are equipped with wheelchair lifts/ramps and two or more spaces to accommodate wheelchairs up to the weight capacity of the lift/ramp.

From Burlington Vermont

Take Interstate 89 South. Follow I-89 South until you get to Exit 10 (Stowe/Waterbury exit). Make a left at the end of the exit ramp; this is Route 100 North. Follow this for 11 miles until you reach your first stop sign. This is the center of Stowe Village. Make a left at the stop sign onto Route 108 North, and follow this for approximately 6 miles until you reach the resort.

Traveling by Plane

Vermonters are used to dealing with snow, and our airport has some of the best snow removal equipment and experienced staff to keep the airport open in winter. Burlington International Airport (BTV) offers daily nonstop flights from major cities including Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago, Detroit, New York City (LaGuardia and Kennedy), Newark, Philadelphia, Washington (Dulles and National), plus weekend flights from Orlando. Airlines operating at Burlington International Airport include American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Frontier, JetBlue, and United Airlines.

From Burlington International Airport, it's just a 40-minute, mostly interstate drive to Stowe. Taxi services and car rentals are available at the airport, and some lodges provide special transportation for groups.

Tradewind offers regularly scheduled nonstop service between Westchester, NY and Morrisville-Stowe State Airport (KMVL), located approximately 20 minutes from Stowe Mountain Resort. For private aviation needs, Stowe Aviation is the fixed base operator at Morrisville-Stowe State Airport. 

 

Traveling by Train

Whether you're coming from Washington, DC, New York City or just about anywhere, you can take Amtrak to the Waterbury Station.

What has changed?
Stowe unveiled a revised parking plan starting winter 2022-23. Parking remains fee at the Mansfield Lots, including Lots A, B, D at the Gondola/Midway, and Lot C at Mount Mansfield Monday through Thursday. Paid parking will be implemented at Mount Mansfield Friday through Sunday and holidays. Spruce Peak parking, which is not owned by Vail Resorts, remains paid. Cross Country Center and Toll House satellite lots will remain free lots for all guests. All parking in all lots is free for guests with 4+ people in the vehicle to incentivize carpooling.  

Why were these changes made?  
Traffic congestion has been an ongoing issue in the town of Stowe for many years. We and the Town of Stowe believe paid parking is a step toward reducing the number of vehicles on the road. By encouraging guests to use public transport, carpool or visit during non-peak times, we hope to move congestion off of the two-lane road leading to the resort and from our main lots. Our goal is to give guests a range of options to access our mountains, from paid lots to free shuttle lots to free public transportation.  

What are peak holiday periods? 
During the following periods, parking will temporarily be paid at all times at the Mansfield Lots. 

  • Dec.. 25 - 28, 2024
  • Jan. 1 - 15, 2025
  • Feb. 19 - 22, 2025

What will you do with the revenue from this new system? 
100 percent of the revenue will be reinvested in resort infrastructure including transit and parking management, along with an increased contribution to Green Mountain Transit to enhance public transit services. This new plan is about changing behavior to reduce congestion and improve the experience for everyone.  

How do I park for free if my vehicle has four occupants or more?  
For free carpool parking, simply follow these steps:  

  • Find one of our Parking Ambassadors, situated throughout the lot. They can verify four or more in a vehicle.  
  • Once verified, our Parking Ambassadors will provide you with a Carpool Parking Code.  
  • Simply apply the Carpool Parking Code to the payment system for free carpool parking.  

Do you allow RV Parking?
No. Parking for vehicles longer than 25' is currently unavailable in all lots.

Do you anticipate paid parking spots to sell out daily?  
While we do not anticipate that spots will sell out every day, it is important for guests to anticipate a higher volume of visitation during weekends and holiday periods and plan their arrival accordingly.  

Won’t it cause further congestion in the ABCD lots since guests need to then actually pay?  
Under the paid parking system, the daily fee is paid through a smartphone app with advanced payment and license plate verification. This means there will be no in-person, on-lot transactions. 

Does this system allow you to reserve a spot in advance?  
No. Advance payment means that you pay at the beginning of the day, when you park, via smartphone app so you don't have to pay on your way out.  

**Consider midweek or non-peak visits, use public transport or take advantage of free shuttle lots. Free parking is still available in nearly half of our lots. By giving everyone options, our goal is to allow guests to determine a parking approach that works best for them.
